Chasing Waves and Fairways: Our Golf Adventure in Seignosse
Share
This summer, Maximiliaan and I packed up the car and hit the road for an epic family trip to Spain. But why settle for a straight route when you can turn the journey into an adventure? That’s exactly what we did, making some unforgettable stops along the way. One of those stops? The stunning golf course of Seignosse, nestled in the heart of southwest France.
Here’s the full scoop on our time in Seignosse, where surfboards met golf clubs and a casual pit stop turned into a highlight of our summer.
First Impressions: Surfboards Before Scorecards
After two blissful weeks in Spain with the family, we started the journey back home with Seignosse as our first stop. We arrived late in the afternoon, checking into a last-minute Airbnb that turned out to be... well, lively! The house was buzzing with young travelers, and while we weren’t there to party, the vibe was infectious.
Before calling it a night, we decided to squeeze in some action and rented surfboards from the Airbnb. Seignosse, after all, is famous for its world-class surf spots. While our attempts at riding the waves were far from pro-level, it was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the local beach culture. Post-surf, cocktails in hand, we planned our next day: an early morning tee time at the Seignosse Golf Course.
Morning at Seignosse Golf Course
With the sun barely up, we were at the course by 8 a.m., excited and ready to conquer the greens. Seignosse Golf Course isn’t just any course, it’s renowned for its breathtaking design, challenging layout, and unique features, like its signature hole 18, which happens to be the very first par 6 ever built in France. (Yes, you read that right: a par 6!)
We’d planned to film our round, capturing every swing and mishap for our YouTube channel. But as golf often teaches us, plans don’t always go as expected. Our morning surprise? We were paired with another golfer in our flight. At first, we were slightly bummed, hoping for some solo time to explore the course and film at our own pace.
But here’s where the magic of golf comes in: our new playing partner turned out to be a fantastic local woman, a Seignosse member who knew the course like the back of her hand. She shared tips, tricks, and stories as we played through the front nine. Her insights were invaluable, even if they didn’t magically improve our scores. By hole 9, she left us to join her family for lunch, and we continued the back nine on our own.
Despite the course being challenging (and our game not being at its peak), Seignosse’s beauty left us in awe. Of course, our beautiful custom-made bags made our awful golf game a lot more bearable. The lush, rolling fairways framed by towering pines, the strategic water hazards, and the overall design felt like a harmonious dance with nature. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why you love golf, even on an off day.
The 19th Hole: A BBQ Feast
After finishing our round and experiencing the thrill of playing a par 6 for the first time, we headed to the clubhouse, hoping to grab a quick bite before continuing our journey. What we found was far better than we could’ve imagined: a full-blown barbecue in full swing. Fresh prawns, sardines, juicy meats, and more were sizzling on the grill, filling the air with mouthwatering aromas.
We snagged a spot on the terrace and indulged in what felt like a feast fit for kings. It was the perfect ending to our Seignosse experience: delicious food, great vibes, and a view of the course we’d just played.
Why Seignosse Deserves a Spot on Your Golf Bucket List
Seignosse isn’t just a golf course; it’s an experience. Sure, we didn’t walk away with a YouTube video, and our scorecards might not have been the most flattering. But that’s the beauty of a trip like this. It’s not just about the game; it’s about the memories, the people you meet, and the unexpected surprises along the way.
So, next time you’re planning a road trip, consider taking a detour to Seignosse. Trust us – it’s worth it.
