Golf in Corsica: Our Luxury Day at Domaine de Murtoli

A surprise golf trip in Corsica

Birthdays deserve something special and when you’re in Corsica, the bar’s already high. For Maximiliaan’s birthday, I planned a full surprise day: a secret road trip, a luxury golf experience and some of the best food we’ve ever had.

And because it’s us, golf had to be part of it.

The road to Domaine de Murtoli

We left early, 6:15 a.m. sharp, with Maxi having no idea where we were heading. The morning air was crisp, the roads quiet, and the only thing missing? Breakfast. Thankfully, a tiny Corsican bakery saved us with fresh patisserie to-go.

After 1.5 hours of scenic roads winding through Corsica’s rugged countryside, we arrived at a massive stone gate, the entrance to Domaine de Murtoli, one of the island’s most exclusive destinations.

Spanning over 6000 acres, Murtoli is a world of its own: olive groves, vineyards, private beaches, cattle farms, and to our excitement, a golf course. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel small in the best possible way.

Morning golf at Domaine de Murtoli

We followed a gardener’s truck past endless olive trees until we reached the Murtoli Golf Clubhouse, tucked inside the estate’s luxury hotel. Everything looked picture-perfect: ancient stone walls, sea breeze and total silence.

Then came the funny moment, I realized I’d missed a detail while booking: the course only has 9 holes. So yes, we played it twice. But with surroundings like this, who’s counting?

The course is a links-style layout, harmoniously blending into the natural landscape. Fairways cut through the wild Corsican terrain, framed by rolling hills and pine trees that occasionally reveal glimpses of the Mediterranean Sea. At one point, we spotted a giant yacht anchored offshore, a cinematic backdrop if there ever was one.

We teed off at 8:30, and everything just clicked: our swings, the weather, the quiet. By the end of 18 holes, the sun was high and Maxi’s birthday morning was already unforgettable.

We showered in the clubhouse’s spa-like facilities before heading to the next surprise.

Table de la Plage: where golf meets gastronomy

What’s a perfect round of golf without an equally perfect lunch?
Just a 10-minute drive deeper into the estate brought us to Table de la Plage, Domaine de Murtoli’s beachfront restaurant and one of the most stunning spots I’ve ever seen.

The path to the beach winds through olive trees and tunnels of branches, until suddenly the view opens up: white sand, turquoise water, and a rustic-chic restaurant built from natural wood and stone. Every table sits on a different level, all overlooking the sea.

The setting was pure magic, but the food? Even better.

I ordered pasta vongole (I’d been craving it all week), while Maxi went for their steak tartare, made from Murtoli’s own cattle. We paired it with their house white wine, produced on-site from their vineyards.

Every bite was perfection: the freshest clams, the silkiest pasta, a tartare served inside a bone marrow shell. The house olive oil, golden, peppery, and smooth, with warm bread on the side sealed the deal.

It was one of those lunches where time just stops. We sat for hours, soaking up the sun, the view, and the quiet luxury of it all.

Afternoon bliss on the private beach

After lunch, I gave Maxi the choice: a wine tasting, olive oil tour or horseback riding on the beach (yes, all possible here). But we were too content to move.

So we did what any sane person would do, headed straight for the private beach. We swam, snorkeled, and just lay there.

Dinner at La Table de la Grotte

As the sun began to set, it was time for the final surprise: dinner with Maxi’s family at La Table de la Grotte, another of Murtoli’s restaurants, this one literally built inside a cave.

His family drove 1.5 hours to join us, making the day even more special.

We started with cocktails on a cliff terrace overlooking the entire 6000-acre domain, the view stretching all the way to the sea. The drinks were creative and refined, a nice change from the usual suspects.

Dinner was a different story, more rustic, hearty, “caveman-style” cuisine. Big sharing dishes: eggs in tomato sauce, pasta with braised meat, huge pots of food passed around the table. Not quite on par with our incredible lunch, but the setting made up for it.

Halfway through dessert, the skies opened up, the first rain the region had seen in months. We ended up laughing, sheltering deeper into the cave. Typical Belgians, bringing the weather with us.

The ride back & final thoughts

Driving out of Murtoli in the dark felt like an adventure of its own, endless dirt paths, zero lighting, and us trying not to get lost. But even that had its charm.

It was a day that had everything: surprise, laughter, good golf, good food, family and a setting that feels almost unreal.

Why Domaine de Murtoli deserves a spot on your Corsica Golf bucket list

If you’re planning to play golf in Corsica, put Domaine de Murtoli Golf at the top of your list.

It’s not just a golf course, it’s a full experience:

  • A stunning links course surrounded by untouched Corsican nature

  • Amazing dining at Table de la Plage (and La Table de la Grotte)

  • Luxury accommodations and private beaches

  • Estate-grown wine, olive oil, and produce

For us, it was more than a birthday. It was a reminder of why we love the game, not just for the swings, but for the stories it gives us.

Because that’s what Harpy Golf is all about: the blend of golf, adventure, and community, wherever the fairway takes you.
